Origin:

Absinthe or common wormwood (Artemisia absinthium L.) is a perennial shrub native to continental, temperate zones in Europe, Asia and North Africa. Known since Antiquity, its medicinal use is recorded in Ancient Egypt in the Ebers Papyrus (between 1,600 and 1,500 B.C.); later Pythagoras (570-490 B.C.) and Hippocrates (460- 377 B.C.) wrote about absinthe alcohol and its stimulating effects on human health and creativity. The Ancient Greeks drank wine made from its extract, and in the 18th Century, the public could taste it distilled with green aniseed and fennel. Called 'the alcohol that made one mad,' absinthe was reputed to provide creative powers, and before being banned was the infamous muse that inspired writers Emile Zola and Paul Verlaine, painters Vincent Van Gogh and Edgar Degas.

Perfume:

An aromatic, green fragrance The scent is powerful, green, plantlike. Green notes of galbanum and petitgrain mix with the aniseed scent of the absinthe absolute, supported by basil and mint. A woody base note weaves through the wake of this scented, green bouquet. Colored illustrations from botanical plates dating from the 19th Century appear through the matte glass, greige tinted. In the center of the octagonal label, we find a cluster of Absinthe’s flowers printed in gold embossing
